Bedale Probus Club
David Hoult, in the chair, opened the meeting to 46 members, and introduced the speaker, Mr David Archbold of Saint Michael’s Hospice, Harrogate. David gave an illuminating talk, illustrated by slides, outlining the works of the hospice, which is supported by volunteers and donations and costs just under 2m to run. Formerly an ICI residential house for management, ICI helped the movement by holding the price while the movement raised the money instead of obtaining a higher price by selling the house on the open market. It was opened in 1989 and can take terminally ill patients, referred by doctors and consultants, from Bedale and Thirsk. Staff take care of any patient in a comfortable house with five-star treatment and excellent views in a relaxing calm way. “Live life to the full to the end of their days” is the motto. Malcolm Singleton gave the vote of thanks and David Braithwaite asked for members to give an extra donation on top of the donation that the club would give.
