101 cattle die in barn fire

More than 100 cattle have died in a large barn fire near Bedale.

The fire, which happened at a farm in Snape, was reported on Tuesday, September 3, at 4.20am.

The cause of the blaze, which killed 101 cattle, destroyed two barnn, 4,000 bales of straw and 1,000 tonnes of silage, remains unexplained.

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service and North Yorkshire Police are conducting a joint investigation into the cause of the fire.

Insp Geoff Crocker, of Bedale police, said: “We must stress that the cause of the fire remains unexplained at this time.

“To assist the investigation, we are appealing for anyone who has any information which could help officers establish how it happened to please get in touch.”
