Hambleton’s first ever Parkrun took place at the weekend.

Over 180 people turned up for the 5km event on the fields at Stone Cross, Northallerton including experienced runners, those just starting out, families and even two dogs.

“It was fantastic to see so many people out early on a Saturday morning enjoying themselves,” said Coun Bridget Fortune, Portfolio Holder for Customer and Leisure Services.

“The atmosphere was brilliant and thanks must go to the District Council’s Communities Team who managed to secure £3,000 from North Yorkshire Sport to bring this sporting sensation to Hambleton.

“We hope that the event will build gradually to attract 200-plus runners every Saturday morning.”

First over the line was Rob Scott in a time of 17:52 minutes.

The Northallerton Parkrun will take place each Saturday morning at 9am at Stone Cross.
