A NEW play celebrating the English art of one-upmanship will be sailing into the Georgian Theatre Royal in Richmond this weekend.

Sandra Hunt and Rachel Laurence – who together form the touring company Hunt and Laurence – will be staging Mapp and Lucia Ahoy! at the venue on Saturday, April 28, at 7.30pm.

The play is a brand new adaptation by Rachel of the series of novels written by author E F Benson in the 1920s and 30s.

Directed by Richard Stone, Mapp and Lucia Ahoy! celebrates the comic misadventures of arch rivals Emmeline ‘Lucia’ Lucas and Elizabeth Mapp.

Whether swept out to sea on a kitchen table, dabbling in the paranormal or re-enacting the defeat of the Spanish Armada, the eccentric residents of Tilling by the Sea portrayed in Mapp and Lucia Ahoy! are guaranteed to shiver your timbers and warm your cockles, say the play’s producers.

Hunt and Laurence each enjoy successful careers on stage and screen and have been working together since 2000.

l Tickets for the show range from £7 to £20. To buy in advance or for further information telephone the box office on 01748 825252.
