Ripon Grammar School band, Purple Mafia triumphed at last week’s AMP Awards held at Harrogate’s Royal Hall.

Josh Stockdale of Purple Mafia said it was an amazing win in one of the tightest contests seen at the awards.

Speaking to the Ripon Gazette after the event, he said: “It really shows all our hard work and effort has paid off. We knew if we played our best and got a good crowd reaction with people jumping around and singing along, we stood a good chance.

“We would like to thank Matt Burrows and the 6k team for their help, advice and guidance, Sylvia Mooney who supports us so much with equipment and rehearshal rooms and our parents for being a great taxi service,” he said.
