The Sawley Village Olympics committee has been busy sorting out equipment ready for its big day on Sunday (July 17).

The first Sawley Village Olympics begins with an opening ceremony at noon featuring a parade of competing teams, music by The Fountains School Drummers and the lighting of the Olympic flame.

The six team events on the village green include a giant marble run, space hopper relay, target frisbee, dressing up relay, wellie wanging and egg throwing.

There will also be stalls and games for everyone round the green including ferret bingo and splat the rat, food and drink, plus a bar and barbecue.

The event will close with a raffle draw and medals ceremony at 4.30pm.

Part of any profits from the day will go towards supporting one of the area’s Olympic hopefuls for London 2012.
