Pupils at Masham CE Primary School brought the spirit of South American carnival to town for a day.
Children, parents, staff and governors all joined in when the school was taken over by samba for the whole day.
Playing at Masham’s recreation ground last week,
talented musician Joolz Form taught the basics of performing and dancing samba.
Each class had its own workshop where they were able to create samba beats.
The children transformed themselves into carnival stars with their superb efforts decorating masks with feathers and sequins.
In keeping with the day, the school was covered with samba inspired artwork, carnival float creations, piñatas and abstract artwork ready for children to come back to school and put on show for an audience made up of parents.
There was dancing in the hall, followed by a delicious feast and, to round off the fun, carnival inspired games.
Teacher Mrs Leonard who had been on a course with Joolz before said she had enjoyed the experience so much she decided to bring the sights, sounds and tastes of samba back to Masham.
