Masham’s community library is extending its opening times only a month after relaunching in the town’s community office.

The library will be open until 7pm every Wednesday, from March 21 onwards.

Masham library was saved from closure when volunteers stepped in after North Yorkshire County Council announced the town would lose its library if community groups did not come forward to take it over.

It moved into the community office on Little Market Place in February. In the month since the library has seen almost 500 visits, and volunteers have given 142 hours of their time.

Community office manager Tessa Klemz said: “It’s going very well here. People are pleased the library has not been lost, and the community office is turning into a one-stop-shop.

“The library is manned all the time by volunteers who can help with the issuing machine, and the lift makes it easily accessible. We’ve also just taken delivery of 250 new paperbacks to boost the shelves.”

The library is also planning a children’s story time on Wednesday, April 11, at 10.30am.

l Mashamshire community library is open Monday to Saturday, 10am-3pm, and will be open 10am-7pm every Wednesday from March 21.
