A FREE barbecue and fun day on Ripon market square will mark the launch of local churches’ Love Ripon campaign.
The event, organised by Churches Together in Ripon, will take place on Saturday, July 23, from 11am to 3pm.
In addition to free hamburgers and hot dogs there will be a variety of live music plus stalls and activities. The event will also feature a prayer tent where anyone can call in for a talk or a prayer request.
Love Ripon is an initiative by the churches in Ripon with the main aim of organising activities and events which serve the community practically as well as spiritually.
The Street Pastors – launched in January 2009 – is an example of this kind of involvement, with patrols taking place in the city centre every fortnight offering assistance late at night as people make their way home from pubs and clubs.
A group from Churches Together in Ripon was also involved in litter-picking during this year’s Cleaner City Day in March organised by the Greater Ripon Improvement Partnership’s (GRIP) retail forum.
And in October, members of Churches Together in Ripon hope to join with other organisations such as Age UK during Support the Elderly Week.
