THE traditional pancake races were held in Ripon on Shrove Tuesday when more than 200 spectators gathered on Kirkgate for the annual event.
A total of 40 races were held once the Lent Bell was rung at 11am to mark the start of the event.
More than 150 children from primary schools in Ripon took part alongside more than 100 competitors from many of the city’s businesses.
Ripon made international headlines in 2008 when the pancake races were cancelled amid health and safety concerns. But following a public outcry they returned stronger than ever in 2009 and have remained a Ripon fixture ever since.
