More than 100 artists will be opening their hallowed studio doors this weekend and next as part of this year’s North Yorkshire Open Studios.
Visitors are being encouraged to get off the beaten track and visit any one of the 126 artists’ studios, hidden away in breathtaking locations, which will be open across two weekends – today (Saturday) and Sunday, June 7-8 and Saturday and Sunday, June 14-15, from 10.30am to 5.30pm each day.
Among the Ripon area artists taking part are Lisa Carruthers, on Crescent Parade in the city, who produces colourful paintings.
In Mickley, a trio of artists will be showcasing their work: Stuart Whitehead and Anna Poulton at The Stables, Old Sleningford, and Austin Ruddy in Yorebank Studio.
The work by a vibrant selection of artists in Masham on display includes Nolon Stacey’s wildlife drawings and Ruth Wilkinson’s mosaics at the Nolon Stacey Gallery while just up the road at Artison Studio you can take a closer look at Rosie Scott Massie’s papercuts, paintings by Ian Scott Massie, contemporary ceramics by young potter Charlotte Morrison and intriguing assemblages by Josie Beszant.
Elsewhere, Pam Grimmond in Markington will display her limited edition prints.
Event director Rick Faulkner from Chrysalis Arts said that the event promises to be a “fantastic day out” for art enthusiasts and casual visitors alike.
“We are blessed with a range of inspiring landscapes in North Yorkshire, which help make our Open Studios one of the most spectacular open studio events in the country,” he said.
“This is a unique opportunity to meet artists, to gain an insight into how their work is produced, find out what inspires them and to buy high quality art and craft directly from them.”
The artists’ studios are situated in a variety of locations across North Yorkshire, including barns, farms and stables, to country cottages, period homes and suburban apartments.
