SICKLINGHALL Village Playgroup has been awarded a £4,113 grant from North Yorkshire County Council to improve its outdoor play area.
The money has already been put to good use and this week the children celebrated by holding a teddy bears’ picnic in the playgroup’s new large wendy house while parents relaxed on the newly expanded patio.

The outdoor area has been totally transformed into a safe usable outdoor space that allows free play during playgroup sessions.

Julia Lowery, NYCC’s early years and childcare manager said:“Children nowadays do not get to play outdoors as much as they should and can seriously be disadvantaged if they don’t get the opportunity to.

“The outdoors offers experiences that you can not provide indoors such as natural environment, the weather, the space and outdoor activities like gardening and digging in the soil.

Research has shown that these experiences are vital for children in developing their social, physical and mental abilities.”
