PRIME Minister Gordon Brown visited Sherburn Library today.
He used the visit to talk about a raft of measures his Government plans to introduce to protect consumers from excessive debt.
Selby MP John Grogan said the library had been chosen for Mr Brown's Yorkshire visit because it offered excellent facilities and services.
Mr Brown talked about banning unsolicited credit card cheques, strengthening consumer rights and introducing measures to promote more sensible lending – all policies contained in the Consumer White Paper launched yesterday.
Mr Grogan said it had been an honour to welcome Mr Brown to Sherburn. He was the first Labour PM to have visited the Selby district since Harold Wilson in 1969.
