FOUR balaclava-clad men branding a metal pole tried to smash their way through the glass screen at Bramham Post Office on Tuesday.
Fortunately for terrified staff the attempted robbery, which took place at around 5pm, proved unsuccessful after the alarm was activated and the men made off in a nearby stolen Seat Ibiza.

A Bramham resident reported seeing the robbers dump the Seat on a Bramham side street and get in a stolen VW Golf.

Believing them to look suspicious she called Wetherby Police straightaway who had already been alerted to two cars having been stolen in the north east Leeds area earlier that day.

A police chase entailed after officers caught up with the men and they were pursued in the VW Golf across Temple Newsam Golf Club before the car was dumped and the men fled into the Halton Moor estate.

Leeds CID are now investigating the incident. Anyone with any information is asked to call West Yorkshire Police on 0845 6060606.
