Knaresborough golfer John Parry headed stateside this week, attempting to qualify for a PGA Tour card.
Parry, who turned 27 last week, was playing in the second stage of qualifying at Shell Landing Golf Club, Mississippi. He shot a level par first round of 72 on Wednesday, seven shots behind the leader.
Should he finish in tournament’s top 20 players, he will reach the finals at La Quinta, California in December.
Having finished tied-57th at the Turkish Open two weeks ago, Parry climbed to 299th in the world rankings.
It was his first time making the cut since he finished fourth at the Welsh Open on September 1.
This helped him finish 77th on the European Tour money list.
“It will get me into some bigger tournaments next year and allow me to organise a better playing schedule,” he said.
