Harrogate’s KR Ali Taekwondo Club returned from London and the British Masters Taekwondo event with a host of medals.

Sa’andor Jakob, added to his medal haul for the year with a gold while Owen Crame also brought back gold in his first sparring competition.

Gazahl R Ali, in her first sparring competition, reached a final where she finished with silver, after picking up a knee injury early on.

Cadan Hoare earned another final place, settling for silver against quick opposition.

Finally, Ian Irving, who returned to the club this year following a break had a difficult opponent in the semi-finals.

Sparring against an England team member, Ian managed to trade point for point until his opponent finally took the lead and eventually won. Ian earned a bronze medal for his efforts.

Master Ali said: “It is good to see all of my fighters come home with a medal.

“Their contribution has helped Capital Taekwondo become the leading club at this event today with the biggest medal haul.

“Cadan has to be my most improved student in sparring over the last two years. He has put in so much effort during training, his flexibility is increasing, that this silver medal should mean a lot to him, and is just reward.”

The squad were fighting as part of the Capital Taekwondo team, run by Grandmaster Alipour, ranked 12th in the UK.

This year, the team finished on a high with the team now being ranked at 12th in the UK.

With 2014 coming quickly, the team is setting its sights on the British National Poomsae or Pattern competition in March, the 11th Dutch Masters in May, the British National Sparring in September and then back to the British Masters in November.

Finally the club would like to thank to Harrogate Borough Council, who provided a small grant to help purchase some protective armour to allow students to have access to competition.

Some of the students who competed in London could not have attended without this support.
