Wetherby Swimming Club is celebrating after squad success at a recent South Yorkshire gala.

The club’s squad competed in the Rotherham Metro Gala with more than half of the swimmers achieving new personal bests.

Twelve-year-old Luke Hutton left the highly challenging competition with a fantastic haul of five medals, four of them gold.

“I am very happy with the squad’s performance,” says Charlotte McArthur, Wetherby’s Head Coach.

“The results are a credit to the swimmers and reflect the hard work they put into their training.”

Charlotte also said the team’s performance was helped by the team spirit from the swimmers who range in age from nine to 16 years old.

Some of the younger swimmers were competing in events for the very first time in the intimidating surroundings of Ponds Forge International Pool.

Squad members are now looking forward to taking part in the Yorkshire Championships on October 12-13 in Sheffield.

Wetherby Swimming Club welcomes children from eight years old.

Training sessions run on a Tuesday at 7pm and Thursday at 8pm.

Squad participation is by invitation only.
