The Brownlee Triathlon at Fountains Abbey provided one Bedale Runner with a unique opportunity to test himself with and against the Olympic gold and bronze medallists.
The highlight of the event was to be Alistair racing against brother Jonny in a 400 metre swim, 10k bike and 2.5km run competition but injury meant Alistair was only able to manage the cycle leg.
James McCormack was selected by Alistair to do his swimming for him as part of a three-man team, James taking on the 2012 World Triathlon Champion in the swim in Studley Royal lake before handing over to Alistair in the transition.
The three man team of Alistair Brownlee, James McCormack and Mark Young eventually finished one minute 42 secs behind Jonny Brownlee whose time of 32:38 was the fastest of the day.
In the individual event, Richard Woods’ time of 42:07 ensured a creditable 68th
The Viking Chase 4 Peaks fell race on the North Yorks Moors, saw David Burke finished 54th in 92:02.
The following week David took part in the Redcar Marathon finishing 312th in 1:40:22.
In the Prudhoe Miners Race Heather Halliday continued her recent good form to lady by completing the 10k course in 41:17 finish second.
The Seaside 10K in Southport proved to be a good race for Jonathan Fletcher as he set a new PB for the distance of 45:47. place out of 852 competitors.
Harrogate Harriers headed to Redcar’s seaside half-marathon at the weekend.
Andrew Grant had a fabulous run, crossing the line in seventh place with a PB of 1:15:28, as did John Young who also ran a PB of 1:16:29 for tenth.
Simon Watson’s PB of 1:27:14 earned him 69th place.
First lady Harrier was Vic Tremlin, storming through to another PB time of 1:37:22, 246th overall and 22nd lady. Paula Eastaugh was second Harrier lady, 322nd, 31st lady, with a PB of 1:40:42.
She was followed by Sue Moul who completed the double hat-trick of the top three Harriers ladies and men all scoring PBs with her new best time of 1:43:36, 44th lady and 376th overall.
Other results were: Richard Willis, 78th overall, in 1:27:49 (PB); Harry Brook-Dobson, 1:32:28 (PB), 140th; Jon Blane, 1:32:58, 152nd; Tim Broomfield, 1:35:35, 204th; Darren West, 1:37:48, 255th; Pat Brew, 1:38:53, 278th; Rob Athey, 1:47:33, 481st; Nic Willis, 1:47:43 (PB), 491st overall 62nd lady; Dan Simmons, 2:04:55, 853rd; Emma Andralojc, 2:04:58 (PB), 854th and 194th lady.
Coralin Harrison travelled over to Beverley for the College Canter, a seven-mile race over challenging and undulating terrain. in a new PB of 73 minutes.
The weekend before, on September 22, Hollie Bramley took part in the 2.75 mile Embsay Fell Race. She finished fourth lady, 40th overall, in 26:39.
