Injury-prone midfielder Michael Woods has told Harrogate Town he will not report back for pre-season training.

Woods spent more than a year at the CNG Stadium, after manager Simon Weaver picked him up shortly after his release from Doncaster Rovers in March 2013.

The dynamic midfielder played 38 times for Town, scoring nine goals.

However, he spent much of last season on the sidelines after an ankle injury sustained in the Boxing Day derby clash against Guiseley.

Despite returning to the squad towards the end of the season, Woods failed to find the scintillating form that made him a crowd favourite last year.

Town left him off their retained list, but the former Chelsea and Leeds United man was invited back to the CNG Stadium to prove his fitness.

However, he is believed to be seeking a contract elsewhere.

Boss Simon Weaver said: “He’s decided he’s not going to come back for pre-season.

“He contacted and sent me a really nice message saying he has enjoyed his time here and he has got his love for the game back.

“We wish him well. He has given us some brilliant moments and played with his creative flair.”

Meanwhile, Connor Sellars, who was also asked to return to training without a contract, is on trial at Nuneaton Town.

However, former Leeds United defender Matt Heath will return to pre-season training with the Sulphurites.

The defender has also taken up a role helping coach the club’s Under 19 side.
