Tadcaster Albion have signed experienced defender Gregg Anderson from Evo-Stik First Division North side Clitheroe.

Anderson returns to the i2i Stadium almost ten years after his last stint at the club.

Since leaving Tad, the defender has represented FC Halifax Town, Buxton, FA Trophy winners North Ferriby United and most latterly Clitheroe.

Albion required defensive cover with first choice centre back Andy Milne away in the United States due to work commitments.

Boss Billy Miller will hope capturing the Harrogate-born 31-year-old can help Albion shore up a defence which has conceded 26 goals in 18 matches in the NCEL Premier so far this season.

The defender is likely to slot straight into the Tad defence for Saturday’s away trip to third-placed Handsworth Parramore.

Miller said: “Gregg is a close friend of mine and I’ve always admired him as a player, so to have him join Tadcaster Albion is a fantastic coup.

“I’ve had a number of discussions with Gregg over recent weeks, and I’m delighted that he’s now in a position to take part in our squad.”

Anderson was an integral part of North Ferriby United’s astonishing run in the FA Trophy last season, which culminated in a penalty shootout win over National League side Wrexham.

However, the defender left the Villagers little over a month after that success and joined Clitheroe over the summer.
