Harrogate Railway rose out of the relegation zone into mid-table after clinching six valuable points in 72 hours.

Railway earned their first win of the campaign 3-1 at Burscough on Saturday, with a brace from Nathan Cartman after Lamin Colley opened the scoring.

Hotshot Cartman’s superb solo effort in the dying minutes then saw off Clitheroe on Monday night, five minutes after the striker saw a spot-kick saved.

The Harrogate Town dual-registered striker leads the Evo-Stik First Division North scoring charts this season with seven strikes.

And Railway assistant Lee Ashforth believes the diminutive forward is the best shooter in the division.

He said: “Carts just knows how to put the ball in the net. He takes his chances and very rarely misses the target.

“Last year we played him in midfield, but this year we are able to put him back up front and he’s getting his goals.

“He’s always been a goal threat.

“I think he’s phenomenal. His whole attitude is top notch, he never misses training and he works so hard.

“He inspires the whole team when he puts the ball into the net.”

Clitheroe return to Station View on Saturday in the FA Cup first qualifying round, with more than £3,000 up for grabs for the winner.

And Ashforth recognised the importance of the clash for both teams.

He added: “The FA Cup game is massive to both sides financially. Everyone knows that. We try to not let the players get carried away with the money side. I’m sure Clitheroe are the same.

“I’m sure it’s going to be a typical cup game.

“And in cup games anything can happen.”
