Harrogate Town have cancelled Cecil Nyoni’s contract following a breach of the club’s code of conduct.

Harrogate Town have cancelled Cecil Nyoni’s contract following a breach of the club’s code of conduct.

Nyoni, who started his career at Sheffield Wednesdaay has been absent from training at Town over recent weeks and missed the home fixture against Chorley on December 28 and Boxing Day’s trip to Stockport County.

The Zimbabwean midfielder joined Town in December 2014 after boss Simon Weaver prized him away from Evo-Stik First Division South outfit Goole AFC.

He started the season alongside Paul Thirlwell in the centre of Town’s midfield but fell out of favour last month.

Weaver claimed Nyoni had not made contact with the club’s management following a lengthy discussion with Weaver after the 1-0 defeat to Brackley Town on December 19.

Weaver criticised Nyoni for disrespecting the club and supporters by failing to show up in the 4-2 defeat at Chorley.

Following the match against Chorley, Weaver said: “You have to expect your players to have respect for the fans and the club to turn up on each matchday and training session.

“Unfortunately he has not spoken to myself or John McDermott since.

“So who knows what’s going off in his head?”
