HARROGATE Town’s six-month unbeaten record at the CNG Stadium was ended on Saturday, via a 2-0 defeat to Boston United.

Simon Weaver’s men struggled from the outset against their Lincolnshire visitors, who showed intent as early as the tenth minute when striker Marc Newsham slammed home Kevin Holsgrove’s lightening pass into the box

Town were lucky not to go two-nil down in the Blue Square Bet North contest when Holsgrove’s attempt rolled wide of the right post.

Twenty minutes in and Newsham almost added to his tally but a powerful drive for the top right corner screamed wide of the right post.

For the hosts, a lack of chances and failure to convert the few that did arrive proved expensive.

In the second half, Weaver introduced Liam Hardy and Ian Ross but neither were able to make an impact and Town were still without a goal.

Boston meantime brought on player-coach Jason Lee with 20 minutes remaining and the former Nottingham Forest striker sealed all three points with a back header after beating Town centre half Jake Picton.

The defeat is Town’s first at home since they lost to Corby Town on February 5.

They travel to Blyth Spartans on Monday afternoon.
