THIRSK Falcons boss George Peirse believes their "never say die attitude," has been a big factor in their early season success this term.
However despite his side continuing to sparkle at the top of the Harrogate Premier League pile their manager has warned his side complacency could be the biggest hurdle between them and defending their title.

On paper and on the back of eight stra
ight victories in league and cup, tomorrow’s away clash against Harlow Hill should be a walk in the park for the league leaders (2.15pm ko).

The defending champions are looking for a positive end to 2008 but with some difficult games over the horizon Peirse is staying cautious.

“It will be another difficult game,” he said.

“I’ve been told they are a difficult side to play especially at home. It’s a very narrow pitch there and it’s difficult to play football on.

“I’m expecting a battling game. They are a battling side and we’ll have to be at our best to keep the run going.

“It should be a good game. We’re looking forward to it and it’s important we keep winning especially with other teams like Pateley Bridge close behind us.

“We’ve had a never say die attitude this season and that’s really pleasing. We’ve always been able to take it up another gear when we’ve wanted and that’s been the pleasing thing for me.”

The Premier League fixture schedule has again thrown up a few interesting quandaries much to the disappointment of Peirse who was looking forward to a hotly-anticipated clash with Westbrook YMCA.

However now the Thirsk boss will have to wait until the new year for the fixture which could go be a good yardstick to see if they will defend their Premier League crown this season.

“It is disappointing because we played Otley Town back to back and now we’re going to play Harlow Hill back to back,” said Peirse.

“We’ve got the North Riding Cup in between but I still can’t work out the fixtures.

“We’ve still got to play Westbrook twice, Spa, Kirk Deighton, Pateley Bridge and it looks like they’ll be saved until the end of the season.

“It’s disappointing but there’s not a lot we can do.”

However, all eyes are now on tomorrow’s clash with Peirse desperate to keep up the pace at the top of the table.

His side have maintained a super start to the campaign only losing the one match so far at home to Pateley Bridge with Peirse’s side eventually losing the game 4-0 on September 13.

Since then Thirsk have won eight in a row in the league and cup smashing in an incredible 39 goals a long the way.

“It’s important we keep going because we know there’s a few teams chasing us,” continued Peirse.

“Luckily last Saturday we won because Pateley and Westbrook won as well.

“Unfortunately we were supposed to be playing Pateley on December 27 but to my knowledge that has been postponed now.

“Our lads are in a cup final the day before so that’s the reason for that.
