BOROUGHBRIDGE boss Daz Ekin is hoping his side can eat down the gap between them and rivals RIPON CITY and claw their way out of the relegation dogfight.
'Bridge missed out on a great opportunity to put distance between them and the dropzone on Saturday when their proposed clash against Howden Clough was postponed due to a frozen pitch.

Now though Ekin is looking for an immediate return to action tomorrow in their crucial local derby trip to fellow strugglers Wetherby Athletic (2pm ko).

'Bridge should be at full strength for the fixture with a host of front line players returning to the frame after being unavailable last weekend.

Their boss has demanded three points from his side as they look for an immediate league resurrection.

"It's a derby game for us and a real six-pointer for both sides," said Ekin.

"I will say that three points are a must for us. We really need to start moving away from the bottom and the real aim is to claw back the gap on Ripon.

"If we can do that then hopefully we can get to a mid-table finish. It was a shame on Saturday because we really wanted to play the game and get the three points.

"It was a big game for us but so is Wetherby tomorrow. It's a good, big pitch down there and we'll be able to play football on it.

"We're looking to win it. A draw would be OK but we really can't lose the game."

On Saturday the whole of the West Yorkshire Premier League schedule was wiped out due to the Arctic conditions which hit the area on Saturday morning.

"It was something like minus two all day up here so there was no chance of playing really," added Ekin.

"It was a shame but it was a good thing all the other games were called off too."

Meanwhile on Sunday BOROUGHBRIDGE RESERVES could only muster 12 players for the Intermediate Cup as a consequence of the anomalous nature of the rules.

Despite playing against the wind it was the home side who gained the early initiative through Jim Coleman and it was ten minutes before the break when Lewis Barlow put Bridge back on level terms.

The second half was always going to be an uphill struggle as the deteriorating ground conditions combined with the strong wind kept 'Bridge camped in their own half for long periods.

They managed to survive until the hour mark when Coleman added his second and they went further behind to a fine individual goal by Michael Hewson.
