There have been a number of articles in the Harrogate Advertiser in the past few weeks about major roadworks taking place in Harrogate.

May I please make a plea to ensure that the red and green men signals on the opposite side of the roads are installed on all pedestrian crossings, instead of only being included at waist level at the side of the crossing.

Most people automatically look forward and not to the side.

I have witnessed so many near accidents when people have walked across the road at crossings that do not have the red/green man on the opposite side of the road.

So many of us were brought up learning the green cross code to look for the green man. When it is at waist level at the side, you do not see it when a lot of pedestrians are waiting to cross because it is obscured. The worst crossing where this happens is on Station Parade by the bus station.

One national newspaper has recently been campaigning to ensure that all crossings include all features in new installations.

We have pelicans, puffins and I believe the new ones are called pandas!

I feel it is very important for the future safety of all pedestrians.
