Pub giant, JD Wetherspoon, has applied for planning permission to redevelop The Crown Inn on Knaresborough High Street.
The pub chain have not yet set a date for opening, but have purchased the site and intend to commence trading as a ‘real ale, food and wine establishment’ employing up to 30 members of staff.
Spokesman for JD Wetherspoon Eddie Gershon said: “We are delighted to have purchased The Crown Inn and our aim is to redevelop the pub and once again make it an important aspect of Knaresborough’s social scene.
“We believe that the new-look pub will be welcomed by people of all ages and be an asset to the area.”
The new look will include outdoor seating, a new bar area and a larger kitchen to accommodate the larger volume of food the venue expects to sell.
Mr Gershon added: “We also hope that it will result in further investment from other businesses into the town.”
Andy Grinter, a local business owner said: “I’m pleased that there is to be more fresh investment in town, investment that will stretch the high street toward the railway station.”
“This might increase the usage of the High Street and the station and possibly raise towns profile and appeal more to younger people.”
Opening hours are expectd to be 7am to 12pm Sunday to Thursday and 7am to 1am Friday and Saturday, with 15 minutes drinking up time. Generally no recorded music will be played at the pub.
