Unprovoked racist assault on young man in Ripon

A young Latvian man has been assaulted in a racially motivated attack in Temple Gardens.

On Thursday, June 20 at around 6pm, the Latvian man was in sat in the gardens with friends when a group of two men and two women entered the gardens from the Allhallowgate end and began making racist remarks about the victim’s nationality.

One man and one woman from the group then assaulted the Latvian man, causing facial injuries, in what police are calling a “completely unprovoked attack”.

Police are treating the assault as a hate crime and are now appealing for witnesses.
