Richmondshire District Council marked National Armed Forces Day by flying the flag last week.

Chairman of the Council, Coun John Robinson led officials from the authority – along with forces personnel - in a ceremony to raise a special flag in Friary Gardens, Richmond.

Colonel Mike Butterwick, Deputy Commander of 4th Infantry Brigade, gave the address.

He was joined by veterans, civic leaders, councillors, local schoolchildren from HMS Heroes and forces personnel – Army, Navy and RAF.

“It is important that our Armed Forces past and present are shown support and gratitude for the huge personal sacrifices they have made and continue to make for our country,” said Coun Robinson.

“To have so many people represented at the ceremony – both present and past military personnel made the event very special.”
