Children at Dishforth Primary School have raised more than £1000 for the Great Northern Air Ambulance, in honour of a former classmate.
Pupils handed a cheque to the charity’s fundraiser Rob Colgrave after they took part in a sponsored swim.
They were inspired by former pupil Patrick Lindley, who was involved in a serious road accident in March this year.
Ripon Grammar School, where Patrick is now in Year 8, gave the Dishforth children use of their pool for an afternoon. All of the 18 children who took part achieved personal bests, including George White who got in the pool to swim his first 25m length but managed 200m, and Sophie Richardson who swam furthest of all.
Patrick was pool-side to support his old schoolmates, but was so inspired by their efforts he sent his dad home to collect his kit so he could join in himself. Class teacher Sue Edwards was not to be outdone by her pupils’ efforts. She braved Lake Windemere on Sunday, June 19 to take part in the Great North Swim and add to the school’s sponsorship total.
