Police are appealing for information after two serious collisions on the area’s roads.

A 27-year-old woman was killed when her car overturned on the A1 near Catterick at about 5.45am on Friday, May 11.

The woman’s vehicle, a blue Peugeot 206, left the carriageway before hitting a tree and landing upside down in a field next to the road.

The driver, who was the only person in the car, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene, a police spokesman said.

The police are not yet in a position to release any further details about the victim, he added.

The southbound carriageway remained closed until just after 11.30am following the collision.

Traffic Sergeant John Lumbard, of North Yorkshire Police’s Roads Policing Group, said: “I am appealing to anyone who was travelling on this stretch of the A1 around the time of the collision to contact North Yorkshire Police as soon as possible.”

Anyone who can help officers establish the circumstances surrounding the collision on the A1 near Catterick is urged to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101, select option 2 and ask for John Lumbard.

Later the same day a 26-year-old man from Boroughbridge was seriously injured when his car was in collision with another vehicle on the A168 near Dishforth.

He was airlifted to James Cook Hospital in Middlesborough via a police helicopter, where he remains in serious but stable condition.

The collision occurred at around 8.40pm when a silver Golf travelling south on the A168 between Highfields Lane and Kirby Hill roundabout was in collision with a green Peugeot 106, driven by the 26-year-old man, travelling in the opposite direction.

The driver of the Golf, a woman in her thirties, also from the Boroughbridge area, sustained slight injuries and was not taken to hospital.

The stretch of road where the collision occurred runs parallel to the A1. Police are appealing for anyone who saw either vehicle prior to the collision, or anyone who witnessed the actual collision, to contact them.

Anyone with information is asked to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101, select option 2 and ask for Traffic Sergeant Hamish Halloway.
