ONE of Richmond’s busiest tourist destination – The Station – is launching a call for volunteers after recruiting a new manager to help train and support them.
Jackie Edwards, recruited to take responsibility for the 70 part-time volunteers working at the venue, is looking for some new faces to add to the volunteer pool.
She welcomes any willing helpers but in particular would appreciate people coming forward with a few hours to spare and expertise in customer relations, IT skills, administration, and sales and marketing.
The Station is managed by a not-for-profit organisation heavily dependent on the support of unpaid helpers and is open seven days a week offering food, film and art under one roof.
It attracts in excess of 340,000 visitors a year, and with the constant rise in community and art-based activities taking place each week, visitor numbers are likely to increase dramatically over the coming months.
Jackie said: “There are some exciting events coming up at The Station. With the school holiday period looming and The Station’s new website and literature attracting visitors from further afield we desperately need more volunteers. We are asking people of all ages to come forward.”
