Sequins, Samba and stunning fashions were all on display as Barkers department store brought the glamour of Strictly Come Dancing to
Rio Paralympics hero Laurence Whiteley cut the red ribbon to officially open the Northallerton department store’s newly-extended designer womenswear collection.
Four dancers from North Leeds Dance Academy – Ping Liem and his partner Roxanne Youman and Ivan Silva Llamas and partner Hayley Davies – performed the Cha-Cha, Rumba, Samba, Paso Doble and Jive in the department store.
Ping and Roxanne are both professional dancers and Latin Dance champions, while Ivan and Hayley are also champions and dance on the international circuit.
A red carpet greeted customers, who enjoyed a glass of fizz and canapes in The Bistro, before a fashion show featuring clothes and accessories from Barkers’ autumn/winter 2016 collection.
Laurence, who won a gold medal in Rio in the mixed double scull with partner Lauren Rowles, opened the new designer womenswear department.
Barkers staff took part in a fashion show to show off this season’s must-haves.
Barkers womenswear buyer Jane Hunter said: “Everyone loves Strictly Come Dancing, so we thought it would be great to bring that kind of ballroom glamour to our fashion department.
“There was a terrific turnout of customers through the afternoon and evening. The dancers put on a wonderful show and everyone enjoyed the fashion show.”
Lucky customers bagged more than £1,000 worth of prizes, including shopping vouchers, perfume, designer gift bags and makeovers.
