FAMILIES flocked to Masham to enjoy the sight of a record breaking number of steam engines at the town’s famous annual rally.

Wet weather failed to dampen spirits as old hands and new faces joined the celebration of the countryside’s agricultural and engineering heritage.

The highlight of the weekend came when around 20 engines left the show field for the rally’s renowned “road run” into Masham’s market square. After a 15 minute journey, the engines filled the market square from 6-9pm on the Saturday evening.

Organisers welcomed a whole range of engines to the event, including traction engines, vintage tractors, and even some miniature steam engines. After starting in 1965, the rally moved to a new location this year after 40 years at Low Burton Fields.

The new site was offered by a local farmer after organisers decided the old site needed to recover from years of heavy use.
