TWO Ripon charities have benefitted from a soldier’s fundraising efforts.

Warrant Officer Mark Fisher, who serves with the Yorkshire Regiment and lives in Ripon, raised £1,840 when he took part in the Great North Run last September.

Now he has presented the money – £920 each – to two worthy causes in Ripon – the Middle of the Road Trust and the Walled Garden Scheme.

“I would like to thank all the local people and businesses in the area who have given their support throughout for there donations and raffle prises to help me reach this target,” said Mark, who is originally from Summerbridge.

He completed the half marathon in a time of 2 hours, 2 minutes and 31 seconds and is planning to do the Great North Run again this year to raise money for the Firefighters Charity in memory of his father.
