A charity which helps homeless youngsters find a safe bed for the night is looking for volunteers in Northallerton.

Safe and Sound Homes (SASH), that helps young people in North Yorkshire, is looking for help to organise a SASH Sleepout in the town.

The fundraising event will be part of a series of Sleepouts across the region aimed at helping the charity to deal with a rising tide of youth homelessness.

Since January, demand for the SASH emergency accommodation service has more than doubled compared with the same period last year. The charity has arranged 322 nights of accommodation for 16-24-year-olds who have been made homeless. The service is provided through volunteer hosts who can offer young people a hot meal, a bed for the night and breakfast the next day.
