Foreign Secretary and Richmond MP William Hague is to visit Bedale High School this week on Friday, July 22.
He will be meeting Bedale High students as well as the Upper Wensleydale Girl Guides as pupils from local primary schools to show his support for the “Send My Sister To School” campaign.
Students will speak to Mr Hague about how important they think it is for girls around the world to have access to education.
Emma Woods, Head Girl at Bedale High School, said:
“Failure of the Millennium Development Goals is not an option when the improvement of lives of tens of millions children are resting on that promise. We need to speak out to show the government that we care and shouldn’t become lost in the numerous amounts of political promises.”
The students will also present him with a petition made up of more than 1,000 paper dolls to pass on to the Prime Minister, to remind him of the Government’s pledge to send all children to primary school by 2015.
