STUDENTS have been inspired to conquer hurdles by an Olympic medal winner.
Sprinter Tasha Danvers showed school children in Risedale Sports and Community College in Catterick Garrison how music and sport are linked at a workshop designed to motivate.
The Olympic 400m hurdles bronze medallist spent the day with the students as an ambassador for the Youth Sport Trust.
In the only session to be staged in the region, the Londoner worked with industry experts Musical Futures, helping the students compose a soundtrack for a video of Tasha’s Olympic winning race.
“I have a passion for music and always have,” she told students at the school.
“I have a degree in music industry which I use in my sport. Athletics has a beat, a rhythm. I have to have a stride pattern between the hurdles to get into the flow.”
The college’s head of creative faculty, Sarah Cox, said: “We feel extremely privileged to have been in the company of an Olympic star and we can’t wait to see how she performs next year in London.
“The students have been truly inspired by the session and are incredibly upbeat after working with Tasha and the music team.”
