Maternity team at the Friarage delivering an excellent service

THE 'hard work and professionalism' of the maternity team at the Friarage Hospital in Northallerton has been recognised at an industry award ceremony London. The department was shortlisted in the Promoting Normal Birth category at the Royal College of Midwives Midwifery Awards of 2007. The department was shortlisted in the Promoting Normal Birth category at the Royal College of Midwives Midwifery Awards of 2007.

The awards are intended to showcase excellence and innovation in midwifery throughout the country.

Kay Hutchinson, delivery suite manager, said: "We are dedicated to providing a fulfilling birthing experience for all women and believe every woman counts, no matter if they are low or high dependency.

"Our approach makes women feel positive in the delivery suite team at the Friarage.

"We were pleased to be short listed and will continue to strive to provide the best possible service for our patients."

Fran Toller, divisional manager for women and children at South Tees Hospitals NHS Trust said the he team had worked hard and deserved the recognition for their efforts.

"This is a tribute to their hard work and professionalism. "These awards prove that midwives are striving to find new and better ways to improve women's experiences, often in the face of huge work pressures. They richly deserve their time in the spotlight."

The maternity team at the Friarage has worked closely with mothers-to-be through listening and planning sessions aimed at helping patients through the birth process.

Dame Karlene Davis, general secretary of the Royal College of Midwives, said: "All the entrants should be congratulated on their efforts because they are helping to deliver a better service."
