RIPON MP Julian Smith has spoken about the importance of rural bus services during a debate in Parliament.
He highlighted the need to make sure enough funds are provided for public transport in rural communities across North Yorkshire and has asked Ministers to meet with the county council as soon as possible to discuss future funding.
Mr Smith said: “For many people in my constituency bus services are a lifeline. Over the past year I have spoken to many people concerned about the impact on their lives of reducing public transport.
“I was disappointed with the shortfall given to the county council last year and hope to be able to bring Ministers and the council together to make sure there is a fairer deal in the future.”
