One of the oldest horticultural societies in the country says it has seen a surge in popularity in recent years.

Conrad Plowman, secretary of Knaresborough Horticultural Society, says the group enjoyed one of its busiest and most successful autumn shows in memory.

Show secretary Conrad Plowman said: “Both quality and quantity of entries was very high, and we were delighted at the very large numbers of visitoers to the show on both days. We were able to make a useful contribution to the funds of the Knaresborough Horticultural Society, due to sponsorship from the Leeds Building Society, and also contributions on the day from a tombola, “guess the weight”, sale of bulbs kindly donated from Coun Ivor Fox, and the sale of produce at the end.”

The autumn show was held at the Countryside Live event at the Great Yorkshire Showground in Harrogate.

Knaresborough Horticultural Society, which was formed in the 1850s, meets on the third Wednesday of every month at St John’s Church Hall in the town. The next meeting is on November 21.
