After celebrating a successful 27th event in September 2012, committee members and helpers of the Hunton Steam Gathering recently met at the Greyhound Inn, Hackforth, on to present donations to some local charities.
Representatives from the Yorkshire Air Ambulance, Macmillan Cancer Support and Bedale Explorer Scouts all attended to receive donations from the Steam Rally Committee, presented by Chairman David Robinson.
Founded in 1985, the rally has steadily grown over the years and has donated thousands of pounds to local charities and to Hunton Village itself.
Following a lucky break in the weather, the 2012 event was the biggest in the rally’s history, attracting record numbers of visitors, exhibitors and traders.
Chairman David Robinson said: “2012 really was a great event, made possible by the tireless work of the committee and helpers of the rally and by the support of the exhibitors and visitors who attended.
“And of course our thanks once again to Raymond and Mabel Worsdale and to Messrs Chapman for the kind use of their land, without which this event would not be possible.
“This year we have been able to donate £1,000 to the Yorkshire Air Ambulance, £1,000 to Macmillan Cancer Support, £400 to Bedale Explorer Scouts (who control the car parking over the weekend) and £250 to the chosen charity of Andy Kluz, Parkinsons UK (who presents the trophies at the show). The committee is very pleased to be able to support these charities in the work that they do in the local community. Lets hope for some better weather in 2013 and planning is already well under way for this year’s event.”
After the presentation of the cheques the committee heard about the vital work that each of the charities is able to carry out, made possible by charitable donations from their supporters.
The 2013 event will be held on September 7 and 8 and further details can be found at: www.huntonsteamgathering.co.uk or www.facebook.com/huntonsteamgathering
