DO you understand the importance of care and have the compassion, patience and understanding to support hospital staff in the care and well-being of elderly patients?
South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is looking for volunteers at the Friarage Hospital, in Northallerton, to take on an important new role which will include supporting elderly patients at meal times, assisting with drinks, listening, having a chat and providing companionship.
Carole Hughes, volunteer co-ordinator for Teesside Hospice, is working on the project two days a week as part of the trust’s patient relations team.
She said: “The role of volunteers in the NHS is priceless. They enhance services provided by staff and offer a valuable contribution to the thousands of patients and members of the public who use hospital services every year.
“We are looking for enthusiastic, caring people with time on their hands who can make a real difference by helping out on a regular basis.”
Volunteers must be over 18 and have to undergo a Criminal Records Bureau check which will be arranged.
