Parishes across Hambleton which have experienced flooding have been supplied with lightweight alternatives to sandbags – courtesy of the district council.

FloodSax are convenient and easy-to-use and in the last month, more than 2000 have been distributed to communities at risk of flooding including Brompton, Dalton and Great Langton.

Leader of the council, Cllr Mark Robson, said: “Traditional sandbags are very heavy, can deteriorate over time and eventually fall apart.

“The council is delighted that it has been able to make FloodSax available to parishes who may struggle for somewhere to store the bulky sandbags and we hope they will never have be used.”
