When it comes to luck, it seems that Ripon hasn’t had its rub of the green in finding four-leaf clovers.

Despite being blessed with the glorious Fountains Abbey and the inspiring Cathedral, Ripon is the unluckiest city when it comes to online gambling.

The disappointing news comes after a research study carried out found that Ripon finished bottom in the United Kingdom for cities with online winners.

The study, carried out by Maria Casino, also ranked cities in order of those that perceive themselves to be lucky but, again, Ripon fared no better.

Portsmouth proved to be the luckiest city in the UK in terms of wins, with Liverpool, Bangor, Manchester and Chichester all achieving top five status.

However, when it comes to feeling lucky and displaying optimism, Newcastle topped the charts, with locals feel luckier than any other major city in the UK. Manchester, Liverpool, Glasgow and Cardiff followed closely behind in terms of positivity.

The news may surprise some of the city’s keen punters who flock to Ripon Racecourse or bet on the results from the comfort of their own home.

But the chances of actually cashing out any of these wagers? Don’t bet on it.
