A NEW inscription was unveiled on Ripon’s war memorial on Armed Forces Day.

The plaque, which reads “And those who have made the ultimate sacrifice since” honours Ripon servicemen and women who have died in conflicts since the Second World War.

It was unveiled in a special service in the Spa Gardens on Armed Forces Day Sunday, June 25, attended by the Mayor and Mayoress of Ripon, city councillors, veterans, serving members of the forces, school children from the area and local MP Julian Smith.

Work was done on the inscription by Paul Smith of H A Green and Sons stonemasons in Blossomgate.

Other celebrations in the area included events at Dishforth Airbase and family fun day and “It’s a Knockout” competition at Ripon Racecourse organised to raise money for forces charities.
