STUDENTS from Northallerton were among those raising funds for injured soldiers.

A group of sign language students decided to support Help for Heroes by putting their newfound skills to the test. .

The students from Darlington College studying Level 1 and Level 2 sign language entertained shoppers with a special rendition of popular songs.

They signed for several hours at branches of Morrison’s, in North Road and Morton Park, raising a total of £1,353.47 for the services charity.

The repertoire included Pretty Woman, I Just Called to Say I Love You, Flying Without Wings, I Will Carry You and You Will Never Walk Alone.

Darlington College sign language tutor Noreen Chaplin said: “The students did very well as there were a lot of songs to learn.

“We were delighted with the generosity and support we received from the general public for what is a very good cause indeed.”
