CHILDREN at a Ripon primary school have had a face-to-face encounter with some slippery characters.

Pupils at Holy Trinity Junior School welcomed Dennis the corn snake when he made an appearance at the school in honour of National Science Week.

The school invited company Animals In-tuition to bring Dennis, along with geckos, tarantulas and even a giant millipede, to Holy Trinity last week.

The children had the chance to see the animals up close and handle them during the visit.

Teacher Mrs Gibb, who is subject leader for science, said: “We like to make science hands on and fun as much as possible.”
