These items include anything from a sat-nav to a mobile phone to a bike to a lawnmower.

The immobilise system allows the police to identify lost or stolen property and return it to their rightful owner.

By marking items with the Smartwear logo to alert thieves that an item is identifiable property, police think potential thieves are less likely to commit a crime.

Sgt Andrew Tiffany, of Ripon and Pateley Brige police, said: “It’s about keeping your new property safe and secure.”
