A 59-year-old man has admitted downloading over a thousand indecent images of children from the internet.

Ian Wilson, of Manor Drive, Knaresborough, appeared at York Crown Court on Friday when he pleaded guilty to 11 charges spanning 18 months.

In two of these counts alone, Wilson admitted possessing 1,965 indecent or prohibited images of children between November 22, 2012, and May 12 last year.

The nine other counts relate to the downloading of indecent photos between April and May 2014.

Judge Robert Bartfield adjourned sentence for probation reports but told Wilson: “You should not expect anything other than custody.”

Wilson will learn of his fate on January 8 next year. He was bailed until then on condition that he has no unsupervised contact with children under 16 years of age. He must also sign on the sex-offenders’ register.
